Our complete Grande Axle and Hub kit is an upgrade option for existing Ronin 8.8 owners seeking enhanced performance and durability. Designed to accommodate the use of Ford Explorer outer CVs—in addition to the Ford inner CVs all our axles use—this standalone axle and hub kit takes your setup to the next level.
The RX8 8.8 Grande Axle and Hub Kit includes:
• 2x Grande Axle Shafts: 4340 heat-treated axle shafts, these feature Ford splines on both ends with each unique length tailored specifically to the RX8.
• 2x EMPI CV boot kit 86-2273 (outer CV joints)
• 2x EMPI CV boot kit 86-2215 (inner CV joints)
• 2x CV spacers: ensure proper spacing between the Ford CV and the Mazda knuckle.
• 2x RX8 Conversion Hubs: built from heat-treated 4340, these hubs utilize full-length splines for maximum engagement. These hubs maintain the original offsets so your existing wheels and brakes all bolt up.
• Extended 2.5" ARP wheel studs pre-installed (Mazda M12 thread pitch)
• 2x new wheel bearings: High-end bearings (Timken, National, or Schaeffler) ensuring reliability and performance.
• Instructions (hosted online)
Optional:
• 2x billet ABS conversion tone rings. These use the Ford tone ring landing positions but use both the RX8 tooth count and original tooth location to ensure compatibility with your existing ABS system. Note, you'll need donor Ford outer CVs that were ABS equipped or you can cut a corresponding ABS ring land into non-ABS Ford CVs.
Please note: Donor axles from a 2002 to 2010 Ford Explorer are required to provide the needed CVs. OEM Ford axles are required. Aftermarket shafts typically change the splines and are not compatible.
The Ford 8.8 differential offers superior strength compared to the factory Mazda rear end. By utilizing Ford outer CVs, we maintain a larger diameter throughout the shaft, significantly enhancing strength and durability. This upgrade not only strengthens your setup but also means you do not need to sacrifice your outer RX8 (manual) CVs.
How much power will it hold? We typically recommend the grande version for anyone making 600-1000 hp, as well as for all drag racers and drifters--regardless of power--given they're exceptionally hard on parts.
